sydney film festival: screening respect yourself: the stax records story

on saturday, i’ve been with 2 friends at the metro theatre to watch an awesome screenplay about stax records. i’m not much into soul music. but every now and then it’s good to listen to other stuff than lounge or crossover.
the metro theatre is a nice, old venue. a good spot to show a screenplay about for e.g. isaac hayes (from which i know just a few songs like chcolate salty balls or the soundtrack from shaft movies). the screenplay showed the whole story from a small idea into a big business, crashed down by a bankruptcy.
stax was founded ’57 by jim stewart. a white guy that just wanted to do country music. in this years, the population shifted to african-american residents. then he and his sister, estelle axton, realized that rythm and blues is the music of the neighberhood.
